Election officials in at least 3 states are looking into reports that voting machines used in early voting could be changing votes for Mitt Romney into votes for President Obama. According to the Marion Star, Voter "Joan Stevens was one of several early voters at the polls on Monday.
But when Stevens tried to cast her ballot for president, she noticed a
problem. Upon selecting “Mitt Romney” on the electronic touch screen, Barack Obama’s name lit up. It took Stevens three tries before her selection was accurately recorded." The article states the Director of Elections said she contacted the vendor and had them inspect the device and recalibrate it, adding those still skeptical about using the electronic stations have
the option of filling out a paper ballot, and even voting from home and
mailing via absentee ballot.
In Topeka, Kansas, another voter reported her husband had difficulty in casting an early vote for Mitt Romney, as the "touch field" for Obama seemed larger than the field for Romney. The same thing was reported in North Carolina last week. Officials there said it was not a "conspiracy," and the machines merely needed to be re-calibrated.
