Fox News/News Corp Could Be Taking Aim At ESPN

Rupbert Murdoch's News Corp is said to be planning to enter the national sports channel  game in a big way, with a new national sports programming channel.

According to Bloomberg, News Corp. is assembling the required rights from pay-TV carriers and sports organizations, said the people, who requested anonymity because talks are private. While a final decision to move forward hasn’t been made, the company is considering converting its Fuel action-sports network to the new channel, two of the people said.

The news is big because if any company has the financial where with all to take on ESPN/Disney, it's News Corp, even with their tangles lately with the phone hacking scandal and other matters.

ESPN has locked up so many of the most popular broadcast rights, they are now the highest paid subscription channel by carriers.  Of course, these exorbitant fees are passed along to viewers through satellite TV and cable TV subscription rates.  That's one of the reasons your monthly bill keeps going up.
